The Playground of an Artist: The Niche
Tracy Boyd
When I look at synonyms for niche, I see: recess, cranny, corner, cubbyhole; when I look at some of the synonymous terms for recess, I see: cell, cubicle, hiding place, cove (Laird, 1999). The artist has a niche.
During recess, you live freely and express yourself. Those who understand you and those you understand are a part. You create a world of your own together. As an artist, you live freely and express yourself. Those who understand you, those who energize you and receive your precious energy are a part of a world you share together. As this energy is exchanged, you both experience a newness, another reality, an escape from the usual routine. Therefore you are both the artist as you compose this new place. You made a way to recreate the experience of a day. Your soul breathed, it was allowed to live through your outward actions.
It was not confined to rigid expectations. There is time for that, but not in this element. This is your perfect place. It holds the specialties of your life. All of the components are inside of you waiting to be used. Without the actions of you in your playground, your God given resources are covered and sometimes smothered. They grow weak and become dormant. Where is the value that you give them if you deny their use?
Who entrusted you to such gifts and why? Who placed them in you when you were wonderfully crafted? You have the intellect and skill to do the task your niche requires. It was given to you to polish and give in to refinement, but it must not be shut up. You were endowed to help others breathe.
Live this life artist! Help others live and find moments of great experience. Shall they find recess with you, a favorite corner, a personalized cubbyhole, a special hiding place, the cove where the soul finds inner peace. Expound on your niche.
For every artist – and that means YOU!
